Announcement on the use and recommendation of CentOS 7.x version

1. CentOS 7.x version relationship:

The CentOS 7.x series from CentOS 7.0 to CentOS 7.9 are all based on the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7. In this series, CentOS 7.0 to 7.8 versions have been updated and fixed many times over time, and CentOS 7.9, as the final version of the series, integrates all important updates, security patches and performance improvements of previous versions.

2. Why is it recommended to install CentOS 7.9 version?

• Security: CentOS 7.9 is the last stable version of the CentOS 7 series and will continue to receive official security updates and technical support until June 2024. CentOS 7.9 includes all critical security fixes and improvements compared to earlier versions, making it ideal for running in production environments.

• Long-term support: CentOS 7.9 provides stable long-term support to ensure the compatibility and security of the system in the next few years.

• Compatibility and stability: CentOS 7.9 is a stable version that has been fully tested, ensuring compatibility with most commonly used applications and services, and providing high stability in long-term operation.

3. Instructions for other versions:

Since there are no major functional differences between versions of the CentOS 7.x series, we strongly recommend that all customers choose CentOS 7.9 version as standard operating system environment. Other versions, such as CentOS 7.0 through 7.8, no longer have official support and security updates, so we no longer provide installation, upgrade, or technical support services for these versions.

4. Conclusion:

In order to ensure the security, stability and long-term support of your server system, it is recommended that you choose CentOS 7.9 as operating system version.
